JOIN US FOR BIBLE CLASS ON 1 & 2 PETER! In Peter’s epistles he instructs Christ’s sheep how to deal with challenges facing the early Christian church—challenges that we also face today. Class is held in the Welcome Center on Sundays at 9:15 a.m. and on Mondays after our worship service. Hope to see you there!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! St. John’s All Family BBQ is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, from 11:30-3:00 p.m. Join us after late church for a picnic lunch and fun filled activities!  Everyone is invited. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served by the Board for School. Please bring a side dish or a dessert to share.  Hosted by the Home & School Association and Board for School.

ST. JOHN’S SCHOOL ENROLLMENT IS CURRENTLY AT 136 STUDENTS. If you are interested in our school, please call the school office at 541.5881 to schedule an appointment to meet with Mr. Meyer and have a tour of our school. St. John’s School is a Milwaukee Parental Choice School. Choice open enrollment is August 1-20, 2009. Parents, the teachers will be contacting you in the near future for your home visits. The school supply lists and a school calendar are available in the kiosk in the Welcome Center. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 1, 2009. 

THE LUTHERAN CHORALE OF MILWAUKEE, a WELS Lutheran choir in the Milwaukee area, has several openings for singers for the upcoming concert season.  For more information and to arrange an audition please call or e-mail Mary Prange at 414.873.9105 or mjprange@aol.com.

LIFE-A-THON to benefit WELS Lutherans for Life, Metro-Milwaukee and four pregnancy resource centers will be held on Saturday, September 26. The event will be held at McCarty Park with 9:00 a.m. Check-in and registration.  The walk begins at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 Lunch.  The cost is $17 per person, $50 family of 3 or more and $85 for school groups – please call for info.  Walk for Life and get a free t-shirt.  To register and for more information, visit www. life-a-thon.org or call 414.727.8176.

PICK UP SCRIP TODAY! Order forms for scrip are available in the brochure holder located in the church entry and in the Welcome Center.  Orders are placed on the first and third Sunday/Monday of each month.  Orders can be picked up on the second and fourth Sunday/Monday of each month. IT’S TIME TO START THINKING ABOUT SUNDAY SCHOOL! Not just for our St. John’s families, but also for friends, relatives, neighbors.  Ask them to come with you. Sign up on the sign-up sheet in the Welcome Center.  A Sunday School teacher is needed.  Helpers are also needed.  Please call Gene Huth with any questions at 453.1350.

SHOW CHRISTIAN LOVE TO IMMIGRANTS – BE AN ENGLISH CONVERSATION PARTNER! Do you want to meet some interesting people from another culture?  Then here is the perfect opportunity for you!  Volunteer to tutor immigrants in English at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 2827 W. Harrison.  The next module begins Monday, September 14 and ends on THURSDAY, November 19, 2009.  Class meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m.  You sign up for the dates that fit your schedule. Requirements:  the desire to learn about people from other cultures, patience and empathy, standard English, the ability to follow instructions, the responsibility to show up on the days you signed up for or CALL us if you have an emergency.  Spanish skills are not required. NEW AT THE CORNER BAZAAR – The Corner Bazaar (76th & Greenfield) is open from 10:00 AM - 5:00 P.M. The south side location now carries furniture.  Stop in today! They are also in need of more volunteers.  If you can offer a few hours a month, please contact either location as soon as possible. 

CHRIS DRIESBACH PERFORMS AT GRACE DOWNTOWN. Christian musician Chris Driesbach will perform at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3 at Grace Place Coffee, 250 E. Juneau Ave. in Milwaukee. Driesbach, a professional musician for more than 30 years, tours nationally, performing his all-original Christian music and sharing his journey of faith. Much of his music centers on the Holy Spirit’s work in his life and God’s care for his church, Crown of Life (WELS) in New Orleans, following Hurricane Katrina.
